With Van Gough, nothing in his paintings or portraits were one color only. All shades and hues were used to give objects depth and character. This post impressionist artist paved the way for expressionism, and his style is easily recognized for his blotchy directed oils and bold colors.

Van Gough, to me painted what he saw. But also used color technique to express feelings.
